Psalm 84 Devotions in
Psalms October 8, 2015
How lovely is your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts!
(Psalm 27:4 one thing I have desired of the Lord that I will seek: That
I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the
beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.)
Vs2. My soul longs, yes even faints for the
courts of the Lord, my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. (Psalm
42:1, 2 As the deer pants for the water brooks so pants my soul for You, O God.)
One of the things that I think about is how dependent we are
upon our desires to motivate us to do anything.
We cannot accomplish anything without a desire to do so. When I read how this writer is penning how
strong his desire is to be with the Lord, to behold His beauty and to want to
be in the house of the Lord, and the related reference of the soul panting
after the Lord, I think, now how does my desire line up with this passage?
I begin by asking for a desire such as this day in and day
out. I hit this level at times, but then
I become selfish and want things to come to pass that I selfishly desire. I want my agenda taken care of before I stand
at the brook and thirst for God. The
writer says it is one thing he has desired.
I take that as it is the writer’s priority that he is with Lord, that he
learns of the Lord, and that he is in His house above all other desires.
I have to get back to arranging my priorities on a daily basis!
